At the end of 2006 TIME Magazine acknowledged the changing media landscape by making their Person of the Year: YOU . In doing so the article's author recognised how the arrival of social media tools is transforming traditional media, and increasing pressures on organizations to adopt easy to use collaboration, self-publishing and networking tools used outside work.

This co-created article is an experiment in using social tools to share ideas, learn and create something of value for others.
It is an endeavour to practise the art of learning through participation and connected intelligences. The goal, unearthing the issues organisations see in effective use of social tools for collaborative learning and producing. As an experiment, it is inspired by Wikipedia and We Are Smarter Than Me wiki book writing initiatives.

Every visitor is invited to contribute, share relevant and related sources, insert new perspectives, clarify or extend statements and fine tune the English language. (As the result will be published in The Knowledge Tree - an Australian journal - Australian English rather than American English is favoured).

Our beginning interests include:

  • finding the ways organisational leaders can truly leverage the intelligence within their organisations in a connected world
  • discovering what participatory tools have demonstrated the most value for enhancing individual and organisational learning and performance
  • uncovering emerging proven principles, practices and methodologies to support effective use of participatory tools.

Our explorations start with the following framing questions:

1. Connected Intelligence: What is it?

2. How does connecting people in organisations support and promote learning?

3. What participatory technologies are proving useful for supporting learning through connected intelligence?

4. How do we measure success?

This project aims to build on the rich collection of existing The Knowledge Tree articles about blogging, social media and mobile tools and focus on the organisational changes needed to support learning through connected intelligence.
